Anyone who has to make use of the services of nursing service in the event of illness or after a hospital stay for home care in order to receive temporary or long-term medical care is prescribed these services by the doctor under certain conditions.

What does home nursing cost?

With the exception of your own contribution / your additional payment, the costs for home nursing will be covered by the health insurance as benefits in kind. The nursing service bills the health insurance company directly so that you do not have to pay in advance yourself. You will then receive a statement from the health insurance company for your own contribution.

In order for the health insurance to cover the costs, the nursing service must have concluded a supply contract with the long-term care insurance.

Tipp: Under certain circumstances, the health insurance company is not able to provide suitable nursing staff for home nursing (HKP), then the insured person can find a staff himself. The health insurance company will then cover the costs in an appropriate amount. The same also applies if the patient does not accept the caregiver (for example in the case of people with dementia or people with mental illness). However, this must be agreed with the health insurance company.

Treatment care services

Treatment care is provided by nursing staff. The aim is for the nursing service to provide medical assistance that does not have to be provided by the doctor. This includes, for example, pressure ulcer care, dressing changes, operation and monitoring of a ventilator, blood pressure measurement, blood sugar measurement, and much more. The services in the field of treatment care are very extensive. You can read the whole list in this article under the item "Individual services of home nursing":

Domestic care services

People living alone cannot take care of themselves if they have a serious illness. This is often the reason why you have to stay longer in a hospital or temporarily, for example, in a nursing home for short-term care. Then the domestic care services of home nursing come into play.

Household care includes preparing food, setting the table and clearing it, doing the dishes, shopping, disposing of rubbish, getting medicines, cleaning the apartment, changing clothes, washing and ironing clothes.

Home care as backup care

Preventive care secures the outpatient contract medical care by the nursing service. This means that nursing staff takes on tasks that the doctor would otherwise have to do, such as giving injections.

Home psychiatric nursing

It is often difficult for people with severe mental illnesses to organize their everyday lives and lead independent lives. The patients are cared for and guided at home by a nursing service with specialist staff for psychiatric nursing.

Home psychiatric nursing is often an option for people with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, delusions, personality disorders, depression, etc.

The outpatient psychiatric nursing care (APP) is intended to integrate the family environment and thus give the sick person the opportunity to lead an independent life in the familiar living environment in the long term.

The tasks of the nurse include recording the need for help and implementing the required help, help with coping with everyday tasks, creating and monitoring a daily structure, information about one's own illness and learning how to deal with this illness sensibly, monitoring the mental health status and the Development, promoting independence and much more.

Outpatient psychiatric nursing can be prescribed for the psychiatric illnesses approved by the health insurance company, provided there is a confirmed specialist diagnosis for the patient.
